Famous People and Dyslexia

Lots of famous people are thought to have had dyslexia. Read about some of them below!


Muhammad Ali


Muhammad Ali was a famous American professional boxer and activist. He was also known as “The Greatest” and is often considered one of the best heavyweight boxers of all time and one the most

important sports stars of the 20th century. According to sources, when Muhammad Ali was growing up, educators were not aware of dyslexia or how to support children with it. He is now considered to possibly have had dyslexia but wasn't aware of it, this might have heavily impacted on his confidence in his academic ability and may have resulted in him having a strong dislike for reading. These negative memories of school might have inspired him to later create a series of books called Go the Distance , aimed at improving the literacy and confidence of young learners who find reading challenging.


Leonardo da Vinci



According to sources, Leonardo da Vinci, the famous artist, inventor and sculptor best known for painting the Mona Lisa, is considered to have possibly had dyslexia. This is suspected due to the differences between his handwriting and artistic expressions. His handwriting is mostly in mirror image and his spellings are often erratic. This contrasts with his drawings and paintings which are very organized and precise.


Agatha Christie


Agatha Christie was a mystery writer who created Hercule Poirot, a famous detective. She was one of the most successful authors of her

time; her work sold over four billion copies, and many were made into movies. According to sources, she is considered to possibly have had dyslexia as she struggled with reading and spelling.


Steve Jobs


According to sources, Steve Jobs is considered to have possibly been dyslexic as he struggled in school with reading and writing. At the time, dyslexia wasn’t recognized in schools. However, he persevered and used his skills to become one of the most successful people of modern times. He became the CEO, chairman and co-founder of Apple, an American industrial designer, entrepreneur, business magnate, investor, and media proprietor.


Walt Disney


According to sources, Walt Disney, the founder of Disney and creator of Mickey Mouse, is considered to possibly have had dyslexia due to his difficulties in school. Despite having dropped out of high school he went on to follow his dreams, open his own studio and create an empire.


Orlando Bloom


According to sources, Hollywood actor Orlando Bloom was possibly diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of seven. He is best known for his role in Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings.


Jennifer Aniston


Jennifer Aniston is one of the world’s highest paid actresses and producers. She is best known for her role as Rachel Green in Friends. According to sources, she is thought to have possibly been diagnosed with dyslexia.
